U.S. Customs Announcement: Additional duties of 25% to be imposed on certain items from Turkey on 11/29/21
On January 6, 2021, the U.S. Trade Representative announced a determination that Turkey’s Digital Services Tax (DST) was unreasonable or discriminatory and burdens or restricts U.S. commerce. The U.S. Trade Representative’s determination to act in the form of additional duties of 25 percent on the products of Turkey (specified in Annex A of the attached notice). The U.S. Trade Representative had determined that they were going to hold/suspend the activation of the additional duties for a period of up to 180 days.
On June 2, 2021, the U.S. Trade Representative determined that they were in fact going to take action, in the form of additional duties of 25 percent to be added to certain products of Turkey specified in Annex A (attached).
This change will take effect November 29, 2021, as that signifies the end of the 180 day hold period.
