Minimum Driver Requirements

  • Age: Twenty-three (23) years of age for a commercial license and 20 years of age for a non-commercial license.

  • Physical Requirements: Must be able to pass a DOT pre-employment drug screen and DOT physical (minimum of one (1) year required for recertification and pre-employment).

  • Experience: Two (2) years of verifiable driving experience in the operation of the type of vehicle to be operated, plus one (1) year flatbed securement experience for flatbed applicants.

  • Requirements: Drivers must have a valid driver’s license for the vehicle class type of equipment operated and TWIC card where applicable. Hazardous Materials endorsement preferred.

Driving Record Requirements

NOTE: Driving record includes both Commercial Motor Vehicle and Personal Vehicle as reported on the state Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) or as found through the Pre-Employment Screening Program (PSP).

Five (5) Years

Driver Applicants can have NONE (0) of the following serious violations on their record in the most current five (5) years:

  • DWI or DUI (Alcohol or chemical substance)

  • Leaving the scene of an accident (hit and run)

  • Assault with a motor vehicle

  • Fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer

  • Erratic/reckless/careless driving/exhibition driving

  • Drag racing

  • Implied consent (Refusal of Substance Abuse testing)

  • Excessive speeding, involving any single offense for any speed of 15 mph or more above the posted limit

  • License suspension due to moving violations

Three (3) Years

Driver Applicants can have NONE (0) of the following serious violations on their record in the most current three (3) years:

  • DOT Recordable/Preventable Accident

  • Unsafe lane change

  • Following too closely

  • Failure to yield right of way

Driver Applicants can have no more than three (3) moving violations within the last three (3) years that are not categorized as serious violations (see above) and/or one (1) accident, regardless of fault. If there is one (1) accident within the three (3) year period, there can be no more than two (2) moving violations that are not categorized as serious.

  • These moving violations include, but are NOT limited to, speeding, running red lights or stop signs.

One (1) Year

Driver Applicants can have no more than two (2) moving violations within the last one (1) year that are not categorized as serious violations (see above) and/or one (1) accident, regardless of fault. If there is one (1) accident within the one (1) year period, there can be no more than one (1) moving violations that are not categorized as serious.

  • These moving violations include, but are NOT limited to, speeding, running red lights or stop signs.
