USMCA Helpful Tools & Resources

USMCA Helpful Tools & Resources

In follow up to our Janel Hosted Webinar, ‘USMCA vs NAFTA:  What’s the Difference? What you NEED to Know!’, we want to share some tools and resources that may be helpful as your team navigates these changes.

As discussed during the webinar, there is no official certificate of origin or “form” for USMCA.  USMCA requires instead that there is certification of origin, which must contain the following nine minimum data elements:

  1. Importer, Exporter, or Producer Certification of Origin

  2. Certifier

  3. Exporter

  4. Producer

  5. Importer

  6. Description and HS Classification of the Good

  7. Origin Criteria

  8. Blanket Period (if applicable)

  9. Authorized Signature and Date

These nine data elements must be provided in order to claim USMCA on an entry.  The information can be noted on the commercial invoice, on a supplemental document included with the commercial documents, or other form.

We have created a complementary ‘Janel USMCA Form’, which has been posted on our website www.janelgroup.com.  This form may be used to certify individual shipments, or as a blanket certification for repeated imports of identical products.

More information about these 9 data elements may be found in Annex 5-A, located on page 16 of the following document:

In addition, CBP has published an FAQ page, with answers to a long list of questions about USMCA; this may be found here:  https://www.cbp.gov/trade/priority-issues/trade-agreements/free-trade-agreements/USMCA/FAQs
