President Trump - U.S. Relationship with China & Hong Kong
In a press conference held at the White House on Friday, May 29, President Trump made several announcements regarding the US relationship with China and Hong Kong.
Several new measures will be put in place "to protect US security and prosperity". These measures include terminating the US relationship with the World Health Organization, taking steps to protect American research, financial markets and investment firms.
In addition, stating that Hong Kong is "no longer sufficiently autonomous", the administration has begun the process of revoking Hong Kong's "preferential treatment" as separate from China, with regards to trade, export control, dual use technology, and several other areas.
No additional information was provided regarding timing for these changes, particularly as they relate to imported shipments.
